Physical fornication is when a man and woman have sex outside the bond of marriage. What are the consequences of fornication? Spiritual fornication leads to apostasy that is, falling away from the faith and physical fornication the same.

Revelation 18, verse three reads,

For all nations haue drunke of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the Kings of the earth haue committed fornication with her, & the Merchants of the earth are waxed rich thorow the abundance of her delicacies.

This is in reference to spiritual fornication being drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication speaks of indulging in false doctrines, wine being false doctrine, and false words attributed to God. When we fellowship and yoke with wickedness, we are committing spiritual fornication. We are like a person committing physical adultery, violating our Godly Union with a person of the opposite sex. Spiritual fornication is when we unite with the works of Satan. These would be ways of the world greed, prestige, false doctrine, corrupt Bibles, unbiblical worship, and of course, all manner of sexual sin. Revelation speaks of this kind of sin ten times likening it to joining with Babylon the Great. A metaphor for false religions and beliefs of all kinds. She encompasses most of the world today and has assimilated many churches and believers who now sleep, and some have entirely apostatised. Jesus warned the Ephesian Church of this.

Revelation, chapter two, verses four and five read

Neuerthelesse, I haue somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first loue.

5Remember therfore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and doe the first workes, or else I will come vnto thee quickly, and will remoue thy Candlesticke out of his place, except thou repent.

Late in the first century, the Ephesian Church slipped into apostasy. She forgot her first love, which is true faith in Jesus Christ, and went after things of the world. She became a partaker in mystery Babylon. But God in his mercy gave them time to repent of their spiritual fornication. And he said, if they fail to do so, he will take away their candlestick. A candlestick represents the spirit of God and the light of understanding. It means he would put them into a deep spiritual sleep, deadening them to evil, which they embraced. That is, he would give them the desires of their heart. Jesus warns that such persons run the risk of having their names blotted out of the book of life.

  • Revelation, chapter three, verse five,
  • Chapter 13, eight,
  • Chapter 17, verse eight,
  • Chapter 20, verse twelve,
  • chapter 20:15,
  • chapter 21, verse 27, and
  • chapter 22, verse 19, and
  • Philippians four, verse three.

All persons whose names are not found in the book of life are cast into the Lake of fire. There they will be joined for eternity with Lucifer, the King of mystery, Babylon. Physical fornication is not unlike spiritual, fornication God spoke against it from the beginning of Genesis.

The Union of one man and one woman produces one spiritual person United for eternity. If we violate that Union, we risk the wrath of God. This applies equally to fornication within and without the bond of marriage. Jesus spoke against fornication.

9And I say vnto you, Whosoeuer shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away, doth commit adultery.

And Jesus included it with evil thoughts, thefts, false witnesses, and blasphemies. Matthew 15:19. In this verse he separated fornication into two categories, adultery and fornication, the first being violation of the bonds of marriage and the second general sexual sin among unmarried persons. Paul also wrote of the Union of spiritual and physical fornication. He said, and even if they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind to do those things which are not convenient, being filled with all unrighteousness fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity, whispers back bitters haters of God despite full, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents without understanding, covenant breakers without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful, who, knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

He insists that when a person is given to fornication and adultery, they are guilty of a host of other sins. This being because they disdain the word of God, they violate the very first ordinance of Scripture, that is, of one man and one woman physically and spiritually joined in sexual Union. Genesis two, verse 24. Mark wrote of this,

And they twaine shalbe one flesh: so then they are no more twaine, but one flesh.

Mark ten, eight and Paul wrote to the Corinthian, now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord and the Lord for the body.

1 Corinthians 6, verse 18.

Flee fornication: Euery sinne that a man doeth, is without the body: but he that committeth fornication, sinneth against his owne body.

And 1 Corinthians 7 :2.

2Neuerthelesse, to auoid fornication, let euery man haue his owne wife, and let euery woman haue her owne husband.

What are the consequences of fornication and adultery? For the ones who say they believe in Jesus Christ are Lord and Saviour chastisement can be expected. God endeavours to bring the stray sheep back to the fold and teach them not to stray. This is a demonstration of God’s love lest straying sheep fall into a deep ditch and perish Matthew 18, verses eleven through 14. God’s chastisement of the believer takes a number of forms. The first being personal unrest, emotional turmoil, and soul destroying guilt. And the second a life of deception, lying, sneaking around, distrust, and potentially life threatening diseases. The fornicator and adulterer has no peace but endlessly looks for it but cannot find it. True. Peace comes from God and it is attained by following the precepts of God’s word. Those who violate God’s word will never have peace in this life and risk an eternity of turmoil in hell. Paul wrote to the Corinthians,

Know yee not that the vnrighteous shall not inherite the kingdome of God? Be not deceiued: neither fornicatours, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselues with mankinde,

One Corinthians 6:9. Finally Revelation reads,

But the fearefull, and vnbeleeuing, and the abominable, and murderers, and whore mongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all lyars, shall haue their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Revelation 21:8. Whoremongers are those caught up in spiritual and physical adultery and fornication? Should they continue on the course, they will apostatise. Their names will be blotted out of the book of life and they will find their part in the Lake which burneth with fire, for God will not be mocked.

Thank you for listening. Remember what Paul wrote to the Thessalonian every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour one Thessalonians four verse four.
