If I look up the word used in the 1611 text reconciliation (in Onions 1966 English Etymology) I find – bring again into friendly relations or agreement, make compatible. Originally Moses the one whom God gave the law used the bullock’s blood to make reconciliation. Conciliation means to gain the goodwill of, win over: reconcile. Combine, unite, procure, gain win. Concilium meeting, union, council.
Re mean to do again and the con means to bring to together. Therefore, recon means to bring to together again.
If I look at Hebrews I see:
For verely he tooke not on him the nature of Angels: but he tooke on him the seed of Abraham. 17Wherfore in all things it behooued him to bee made like vnto his brethren, that he might be a mercifull and faithfull high Priest, in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sinnes of the people. 18For in that he himselfe hath suffered, being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
Jesus did not become an angel but the seed of the promise – Abraham. He took on the responsibility or duty (behooved) to become like his brethren. We see in Philippians 2 –
Who being in the forme of God, thought it not robbery to bee equall with God:
But made himselfe of no reputation, and tooke vpon him the forme of a seruant, and was made in the likenesse of men.
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himselfe, and became obedient vnto death, euen the death of the Crosse.
